Ok there are negatives to going off road.
Waste fuel, which is quite costly at the moment.
Wear out the car quicker, especially by putting the vehicle to extremes.
Rust the car easier, the mud, and water inside affects the metal easily.
The water and or mud is detrimentle to the alternator, fan belt, air filter and any other exposed moving part.
Suspension and shockies get a beating on rough road.
Tyre wear and axle wear when off road.
The need to wash the car more often, and with the mud on the paint makes for easier to scratch when sponging off.
No wonder four wheel drive shops advertise off road use as cool and fun, they will have people coming more regularly to stock up on new items.
I am sure there is more to the list. The basic principle here is that it either costs lots of money to maintain an already expensive vehicle or DO NOT go off road for any reason.
This comes to the argument that it is useless to buy a four wheeler in the first place. If you are going to be on the road, why slug around a 2 tonne beast that drinks fuel like a alcoholic, when you could get a mini 4 cylinder that is on a diet.
Logic says avoid big four wheelers.
